Growing Confident Learners

Welcome to Charter

Welcome to Charter Academy!

At Charter, we are proud to be a vibrant and nurturing primary school, offering a warm and welcoming environment for all our families. As a one and a half form entry school with approximately 350 children on roll, we celebrate our close-knit community while embracing the rich diversity of our pupils and families.

Our school values, known as Roots To Success, are at the heart of everything we do. They ensure that we create a love of learning, build determination, and inspire every child to reach their full potential. We believe that by nurturing strong roots—values such as consideration, creativity, and pride—our children will grow into confident, compassionate, and successful individuals.

We hold high aspiration at the core of our ethos. As a Voice 21 Centre of Excellence, we are committed to developing our children’s oracy skills, ensuring that they learn to talk, learn through talk, and learn to listen. This approach enriches our strong pupil leadership programme, where children take on meaningful roles within the school, enhancing their confidence, decision-making, and leadership skills. Our pupils use their voice to make a genuine impact on daily school life.

We are also passionate about our role within the local community. Through partnerships with local organisations, involvement in community events, and initiatives that extend learning beyond the classroom, our children learn the importance of community spirit, empathy, and social responsibility.

I warmly invite you to explore our website and discover more about our wonderful school. Better still, why not visit us in person? You’ll see firsthand the enthusiasm of our pupils, the dedication of our staff, and the supportive atmosphere that makes Charter such a special place to learn and grow.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Our Roots to Success

Pupil learning

At our school, we are committed to providing a rich and engaging learning experience for every child, from the very start of their educational journey in the Early Years through to Year 6.

Our vision is to enable all children to develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to thrive in their next stage of education and beyond.

We believe that a strong foundation in the Early Years is crucial, nurturing curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning through play-based and hands-on experiences.

As children progress through the school, our carefully designed curriculum builds on this foundation, ensuring a seamless and inspiring learning journey.

Our teaching is underpinned by the 6 Principles of Great Teaching, which guide our practice to ensure high-quality, effective, and impactful learning experiences. We also embed our Roots to Success values and our CODE approach—fostering Challenge, Ownership, Dialogue, and Engagement—into every lesson.

Through our status as a Voice 21 Centre of Excellence, we prioritise high-quality oracy, encouraging our pupils to learn to talk, learn through talk, and learn to listen. This focus on spoken language not only supports academic progress but also builds confidence, leadership, and communication skills that will serve our pupils well throughout their lives.

At our school, learning is not just about achieving strong academic outcomes but also about developing well-rounded, confident, and resilient young people who are ready to embrace the future with ambition and self-belief.

Pupil Leadership

At our school, we believe that every child has the potential to be a leader. Through our dedicated weekly leadership lessons, all pupils explore the lives and legacies of inspiring leaders from around the world who have overcome adversity.
These sessions not only build knowledge and understanding but also nurture essential leadership qualities such as resilience, empathy, and a strong sense of justice.
We provide all children with opportunities to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills, both in the classroom and beyond. Pupils can be elected by their peers to serve in a range of leadership groups, including:
  • Eco Defenders, who champion sustainability and environmental initiatives
  • Well-Being Warriors, who promote a positive and healthy school culture
  • Reading Champions, who inspire a love of reading across the school
  • Cultural Leaders, who celebrate diversity and enrich our community with cultural experiences
  • Events Coordinators, who help plan and lead exciting school events and activities
Through these roles, our pupils take on real responsibility, contribute positively to our school community, and develop the confidence to make a difference. We are proud to see our young leaders grow into articulate, thoughtful, and proactive individuals who are ready to lead the way—now and in the future.

Pupil Challenge

At our school, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their very best. We are committed to providing all pupils with the tools, support, and inspiration they need to thrive academically, socially, and personally. As a coaching school, we focus on delivering an education of the highest quality—one that fosters curiosity, determination, and 100% engagement in every lesson.

Challenge is at the heart of our teaching approach. Through our CODE framework—promoting Challenge, Ownership, Dialogue, and Engagement—and the 6 Principles of Great Teaching, we ensure that every child is consistently stretched and supported. Whether through thought-provoking questions, high-quality resources, or ambitious learning opportunities, challenge is embedded in all aspects of our curriculum.

Our commitment to challenge goes beyond the classroom. We provide a wealth of enrichment opportunities that encourage children to apply and develop their skills in real-world contexts. From participating in leadership groups and representing the school in competitions to engaging in creative arts and outdoor learning, our pupils are inspired to take risks, embrace new experiences, and celebrate their achievements.

By creating an environment where challenge is valued and celebrated, we empower our children to become confident, motivated, and aspirational learners—ready to take on whatever comes next.

Pupil Support

At our school, we are dedicated to ensuring that every child feels safe, valued, and supported throughout their learning journey. We understand that children thrive when their emotional, social, and academic needs are met, and we have a robust support system in place to achieve this.

Our strong pastoral team plays a central role in supporting pupils’ well-being. Whether helping children navigate challenges, offering a listening ear, or providing targeted support, our team is always on hand to ensure that every child feels cared for and understood. Our dedicated Attendance Officer works closely with families to promote good attendance, ensuring that all children can make the most of their learning opportunities.

Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge and skills they need to make safe and healthy choices. Through age-appropriate lessons, children learn about managing emotions, building positive relationships, and making informed decisions about their well-being.

We are committed to every child achieving their full potential. Termly Pupil Progress Meetings involving the Headteacher, Phase Leaders, and Class Teachers enable us to closely monitor academic progress. This collaborative approach ensures that any child who is at risk of underachieving is identified swiftly, and tailored interventions are put in place to support them.

At our school, support is not just a response to challenges but a proactive and integral part of our ethos. We strive to create an environment where all children are empowered to succeed, knowing that they have a strong network of support behind them every step of the way.
